Abi Clarke
In the earlier
days (i.e. early 2020. In the olden days, comedians may have expected to gig up
and down the UK for a long time before being invited onto a television panel,
and later selling an arena tour. However, the reality is that it's difficult.
One art form that could still be performed live is comedy, however there's no
chance of arena performances. However, one comedian from Bristol has been able
to connect with a global audience with the help of the social media lockdown. Abi
Clarke never set out to become an internet celebrity. Abi, 24, lives in Henbury
and began posting videos online "to build a network of like-minded people
who would enjoy my standup comedy." "I was performing a lot of gigs
in the depths of Devon to males older than 50 who were not so keen on my Love
Island, Sims and Twilight references so I went to the internet in hopes of
finding other young women who really related to me." Abi has since
appeared at Lakota Gardens after the restrictions on lockdowns have been eased
but she still posts her videos on Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok (where she
recently surpassed the 500,000 mark) and draws inspiration from sources as
varied as her work in a cafe, a conversation with a stranger or a girls' group
chat. She also writes every thought down on her phone.
