Chieng , born 21 November 1985 non-primary source needed is a Malaysian actor
and comedian. Chieng is currently a senior reporter on The Daily Show on Comedy
Central and creator and star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student
which premiered on ABC (Australia) and Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was
born to an Malaysian Chinese couple in Johor Bahru (Malaysia). From 1989 until
1994, he resided in Manchester in New Hampshire. Chieng appeared in an annual
comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia in 2013 along with Trevor Noah. Chieng
was then asked to take on the role of Noah's Daily Show two years later. He was
named one the top 10 Comics to follow by Variety in July of 2016. In October
2016, Chieng appeared as a guest on The Daily Show to offer a response to a
Jesse Watts Fox News segment that many thought was racist. Chieng airs an
expletive-filled critique of the segment on Fox News that was deemed
conservative by many. He also revisited New York City's Chinatown in which
Watters have mocked the residents and conducted interviews more respectfully in
Mandarin as well as Cantonese. The viral video was covered by the Washington
Post, Slate, as well as various other publications. Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout
during his youth. He has not been able to gain citizenship or permanent
residence status in Australia despite living in Australia for ten years. Chieng
made the joke that he was negative towards dogs during the 2018 Daily Show.
However Chieng later claimed that he is "100 100 percent confident about
dogs" in an interview.
